What happens on the First Day of Camp?
9:00 - 9:30 Kids check in, show them where to put lunches & helmets, tell them about buying drinks, make name tags.
9:30 - 10:00 Assign kids to teams, explain the rules, and meet the horses.
10:00 - 11:30 Show how to brush & saddle horses, go over turning & stopping, each camper practices turning & stopping, getting on and off, riding the horse on their own.
11:30 - 11:45 Bring horses back to barn, unsaddle, water, kids get lunches & wash hands.
11:45 - 12:45 Eat lunch, play games in yard when finished, everyone uses the restroom.
12:45 - 2:00 Teach how bridle & bit work, teach how to put bridle on, saddle up horses & play games on horseback using what we learned that morning.
2:00 - 2:20 Put horses up, clean stalls, check horse’s water, wash hands, kids get drinks or snacks.
2:20 - 3:00 Do craft (something to do with horses), play games in the yard. Wait for parents to pick up.
Each camper builds on to their riding skills as the week progresses. New skills are taught each day and are applied to the game played in the afternoon. We make learning about horses and riding fun!
